On Saturday April 27th 2024, the Netherlands will be celebrating the King's Birthday again! Are you planning on attending one of the many events, festivals or other festivities throughout the country? If so, consider that most of the festivities scheduled for King's Day are easy to reach by public transport. Below you will find more information about the special timetable for public transport during this event.
Travel by public transport: plan and buy your e-ticket in advance to enjoy a carefree King's Night or King's Day.

In general, the public transport companies drive on a national holiday as on a Saturday. And in 2024 that is simple as Kingday is this year also on a Saturday. The actual timetable is processed in our planner. Plan your trip ahead and also think about the return journey, so you are not facing surprises on your way back.
Don't forget to buy an (online) ticket!
Many people think that public transport is free on King's Day. But you should have a valid ticket on King's Day. Make sure you have sufficient credit on your OV-chipkaart or buy your ticket in advance in our 9292 app. Buy your NS train e-ticket for King's Day in the 9292 app.
Most festivities on King's Day are easily accessible by train. NS will travel according to its special Orange timetable on Friday evening April 26th and on Saturday April 27th. Extra trains or longer trains will be provided by NS to bring you to your favourite King's Day party destination. The 9292 planner is up to date with all the time tables of NS.
It may mean that trains run at different times, depart from different platforms and/or have a different final destination. So pay attention and plan your trip in advance.
Sometimes trains also have a different final destination than in the regular timetable. Take into account that trains and at stations might be extra crowded.

Traveling to and from Schiphol
Are you traveling to Schiphol on King's Day? We advice you to plan extra travel time, so that you are sure to arrive on time. Plan your trip in advance and allow at least half an hour extra traveling time for yourself.

During King’s Day Amsterdam RAI station is closed for the metro and train. You can travel via Amsterdam South. Amsterdam Science Park is also closed, it is best to travel via Amsterdam Amstel. This is automatically processed in the 9292 planner.
On King's Day it will be busy again in Amsterdam. GVB is happy to adapt to this situation. And at the same time continue to transport you as well as possible. That already starts during King's Night.
• The night buses will run a different route on various lines on Friday 26 and Saurday April 27th. They do not drive over the Rokin, the Dam and the Damrak;
• During King's Day, the metros will run their normal route based on the Saturday timetable. Only RAI station is closed all day and the metro (and train) will not stop here;
• The trams and buses run the Saturday timetable. Most trams and buses run a different or combined route;
• The ferries operate the Saturday timetable until midnight on King's Day. The buiksloterveer (F3) sails all night long.
The famous Vrijmarkt (flee market) in Utrecht already starts during King's Night on Friday April 26th from 6 p.m. This continues all night and day and ends on King's Day on April 27th at 6 p.m. U-OV runs an extensive King's Night network together with Syntus, in order to get you back home after a visit to the flee market or one of the other activities during King's Night.
In the city center of Utrecht, a number of stops will be canceled for some routes during King's Day. The bus stops in the city center will be inactive between Wednesday April 26th at 4:00 PM and April 27th at 11:00 PM. Plan your trip in advance to see what this means for your trip. The city is easily accessible by foot from the station.
